Peter Wright blasts World Grand Prix rivals: ‘I don’t think they’re good enough anymore’

Peter Wright may never have won the World Grand Prix before, but he is in uber-confident mood this week, dismissing his rivals as not good enough and saying he can beat anyone with any set of darts.

The world champion got his campaign in Leicester off to the perfect start on Monday night with a 2-0 win over Kim Huybrechts, finishing with a very health average of 94.36 in the double-in format.

The two-time world champ has a strangely poor record at the Grand Prix, reaching the final in 2018 but otherwise making it to just one quarter-final and losing in the first round on six occasions, including the last two years.

However, that is not denting his confidence and now he is into the second round he expects to be lifting the trophy on Sunday night.

‘I said to Colin Lloyd, if I get through this first round I’ll win it, so there you go,’ Snakebite told Online Darts. ‘The old guy here, still pushing everyone’s buttons, annoying them. I can still play darts.

‘I didn’t know what darts I was using until the last five minutes before I walked on stage. I can use any darts and beat anybody, so bring it on!’

Wright turned 52 this year but feels like he has been given a new burst of energy thanks to gallstones surgery in August.
