Peter Schmeichel questions Ralf Rangnick's tactics in Manchester United defeat to Man City
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel feels Ralf Rangnick should have done more to prevent Manchester City running away with the derby.
United found themselves thoroughly outclassed at the Etihad after suffering a 4-1 defeat as their dismal season continued. Despite giving a decent account of themselves in the first half, it was one-way traffic after the break as the visitors failed to lay a glove on their neighbours.
Having found themselves going into half-time 2-1 down, United were lucky not have conceded more in the second half as City dominated throughout. Riyad Mahrez’s brace secure a league double for the Blues this season, and they had plenty more opportunities to pile on the misery.

United interim boss Rangnick has come in for some criticism for his selection and tactics against the champions. Many observers felt the German made the wrong choice as Bruno Fernandes operated as a false nine, with City afforded plenty of time on the ball.
Despite the criticism, United did manage to produce a relatively even contest during the opening 45 minutes. It was only after the break when City truly ran away with things, and in some style.
And former goalkeeper Schmeichel, who played for both clubs during his career, felt Rangnick should have done more at the break to prevent the onslaught. Although United gave a good account of themselves in the first half, there were signs that they wouldn’t be able to keep up their tempo.
"I thought Rangnick should have changed things at half-time,” Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He may have had words, but the second half was worse. At no point were United in the game apart
