Peter Schmeichel has claimed that Arsenal will be Manchester United’s main rivals for fourth spot.

United are currently four points clear of fifth placed West Ham; both sides have played 26 games.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are sixth, level on points with the Hammers but have three games in hand over both clubs.

Wolves are two points behind the Gunners and have played two fewer games than Ralf Rangnick's side.

Whilst eighth-placed Tottenham have 39 points and like their north London rivals have three games in hand over the Red Devils.

When asked for his opinion on which club were most likely to seal fourth spot Schmeichel struggled to split his former club and Arsenal.

“I think Arsenal have shown some great form. He told BBC Radio Five Live.

“But actually, on current form in the last five games, Man United is a little bit better than Arsenal. It’s hard to see but they are.

“I think having the points on the board rather than games in hand [is more important].”

Spurs can close the gap on United to four points if they beat Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

However, Arsenal will be just one point behind the Red Devils if they beat Wolves at the Emirates on Thursday.
