Peter Leven still in Dundee manager frame as Shaun Maloney collapse opens door to 3 targets

Peter Leven is still in the hunt to be Dundee’s new boss.

The former Kilmarnock midfielder has carved out a terrific reputation as a coach after spells working abroad in Belarus and Russia.

Leven has been interviewed by the Dens Park board and is in the mix to replace Mark McGhee.

Jack Ross and Shaun Maloney were on a shortlist to take charge of the Dark Blues but are no longer in contention.

Talks between ex-Hibs gaffer Maloney, Dee chief John Nelms and director of football Gordon Strachan broke down last week but Leven is still on the club’s radar and being considered.

The 38-year-old was the assistant manager at Rugby Park and had a spell working at Middlesbrough’s academy before moving to Dinamo Brest in 2018 to work alongside Marcel Licka, where they won the title and two Super Cups.

The pair went to Orenburg and led the Russian side to TWO promotions.

Dee coach and club legend Dave Mackay is in the running alongside Gavin Rae, who is keen on return to management after a spell at Australian club Hakoah Sydney City East.

Rae recently said: “I’ll always have a soft spot for Dundee.”.
