Peseiro takes search for Eagles’ goalkeeper to South Africa

Francis Uzoho

Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro, has taken his search for a quality goalkeeper to South Africa, where forgotten Nigerian star, Daniel Akpeyi plays for Moroka Swallows.

Francis Uzoho is currently Super Eagles number one goalkeeper, but the Cyprus-based player has come under severe attack following his unconvincing displays in recent games.

Peseiro said recently that he is willing to give everybody, including local goalkeepers, opportunity to stake their claim for the number one spot. Ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, Peseiro met with Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, and top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), where he outlined his plans for Nigeria’s success at Cote d’Ivoire 2024.

According to reports from that meeting, one of Peseiro’s promise is to ensure that both the defence, midfield and the goalkeeping departments compliment the efforts of the attack, which many believe is the only top-quality department in the team.

According to reports, Peseiro wants to bring back Akpeyi to the team to provide competition for Uzoho, who seems to be having it easy in the team.
Sources at the NFF said the Portuguese has contacted everybody he wants to give a chance in the team, adding that the list of players for the Eagles’ UAE camp will be released before the Christmas festivities.

Nigeria will head for the Abu Dhabi for its final preparations for the Nations Cup. While in the UAE, the Eagles will play against Leopards of Congo and Burkina Faso in a three-nation tournament.
