Peseiro debunks Zamalek links, says his focus is on Super Eagles

The embattled Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro, has debunked reports linking him with the vacant coaching job at Zamalek of Egypt.

Peseiro while denying the reports that he has applied to become the coach of Zamalek has restated his commitment to the Super Eagles.

“At the present, all my focus is on the Nigerian national team only,” the Portuguese football tactician told btolat.com.

“There are no negotiations from Zamalek in any case and I am not thinking about anything else.”

Multiple reports claim that Zamalek has set their sights on Peseiro as a replacement for Juan Carlos Osorio whom the Egyptian Premier League club recently sacked.

Peseiro has been under enormous pressure as Super Eagles coach as a result of the team’s highly disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Eagles have managed just two points from a possible six after disappointing 1-1 draws with Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo last Thursday and Zimbabwe in Rwanda on Sunday.

The poor start to the campaign has led to numerous calls for the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to sack the 63-year-old as soon as possible.

Nigerians believe he does not have what it takes to lead the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States (US), Canada and Mexico.
