Perthshire's Archie Graham wins gold medal at British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships

Talented Archie Graham powered through the water at the British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships to secure gold.

The 18-year-old from Blairgowrie was in fantastic form in Crawley to proudly take his place at the top of the podium after success in the 25 metre butterfly event.

Delighted Archie, who was taking part in the competition for the first time, this week told The PA that the butterfly is his favourite stroke.

“I had the best time taking part as everyone was so friendly and nice,” Archie said.

“I enjoy working out in the gym with my brothers to help get stronger for the swimming.”

Archie is a member of the Perth Dolphins Disability Swim Club and is continually putting in the hard work to improve further.

Graeme Doig of Perth and Kinross Disability Sport hailed the gold medal-winning achievement.

“I’m very proud of how Archie performed at the GB Down Syndrome British Swimming Championships in Crawley last week,” he explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“To perform so well and win a gold medal is richly deserved.

“He always puts in lots of effort and trains hard each week with Perth Dolphins Disability Swim Club.

“Archie is very active and participates in a number of sports. He has got that competitive trait in him which sees him do his very best in training and at competitions and I look forward to seeing him gain further success in the future.”
