Perth snooker player Scott Donaldson qualifies for World Championships at the famous Crucible

Fair City snooker player Scott Donaldson is relishing another crack at the Crucible after securing a World Championships spot.

The Perth potter booked his ticket for the Sheffield showpiece after an impressive display throughout qualifying.

He overcame Robbie McGuigan 6-0, Li Hang 6-5 and then hit top form to dispatch Allan Taylor 10-1 on Tuesday.

“I played well to be fair and have been for quite a while now,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I’d played well all the way through qualifying, not just in that last match. The way it turned out for me was pretty nice. It’s just really nice to be out there and enjoying playing again.”

Donaldson’s only other appearance in the World Championships main draw was back in 2019 where he lost 10-4 to Kyren Wilson in round one.

This time he opens up the tournament against world number 15 Mark Allen. The match is pencilled in for Monday.

“I didn’t do too badly last time, just lost a couple of close frames at the start,” he recalled of his previous appearance at the Crucible.

“Whenever you play one of the top players, regardless of where it is, it’s going to be really difficult to stamp your authority on the match. If you can start well, you never know.

“It’s a tough game against Mark. You never really know how the balls will go or how your opponent will play.

“I don’t really think about what to expect, I’m just ready to go and play.”

Donaldson, a big St Johnstone supporter, added: “The Crucible is an unbelievable place to play snooker.

“Just playing in the arena is great. I’ll definitely enjoy the experience again, no doubt about it.”
