Perfect weekend for Linlithgow Cricket Club as they pick up double victory

Linlithgow Cricket Club had the perfect weekend as both their First and Second XIs picked up victories.

The top team made it consecutive wins for the first time in a couple of months as a fine bowling display saw them whittle Edinburgh Accies all out for 142 after the hosts had started brightly to get to 81-1.

The pick of the bowlers for Linlithgow was Gordon Allan with figures of 3-29 from his 10 overs.

Linlithgow have struggled to chase down modest totals with season and it would repeat itself again in this clash although they were able to just about drag themselves over the line.

A poor start saw them fall to 42-4 before a fine partnership between Alastair Napoli and Patrick Bennie steadied the ship, adding 30 runs.

Clinton Dixon (28) helped move the score along with Andrew Wallace adding a priceless 16 runs to put the match firmly in Linlithgow’s favour.

However, Dixon’s dismissal was followed by Andrew Wallace and Jordan Hamilton losing their wickets to set up a thrilling finale with the visitors needing five runs and Accies just one wicket.

Gordon Allan proved to be the hero as he smashed a four into the boundary on a free hit following a no ball to score the winning runs and seal the one wicket victory and take his side out of the Championship relegation zone.

Meanwhile, an equally thrilling Division Four clash was played at Boghall between Linlithgow Second XI and Dunbar.

The away side batted first and scored 178-5 in their allotted 40 overs with Ramesh Duvvuri being the pick of the bowlers with an economical 1-25 from eight overs.

The hosts looked completely out of the contest at 35-6 on for a wonderful stand between Adam Blumski and Alan Williamson turning the match in their favour.

Blumski made his maiden 50
