"Perfect partner for Romero" - Insider drops Spurs transfer verdict on "extraordinary" £45m star

Tottenham Hotspur could find the ‘perfect partner’ for Cristian Romero in Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club since last summer and now finally appears set to seek a new challenge ahead of next season.

According to 90min, Tottenham’s interest in Torres began almost 12 months ago, but he decided to remain with his boyhood club and compete in the Champions League.

That decision was vindicated after the Yellow Submarine reached the semi-finals of Europe’s elite cup competition, and the Spain international could have his pick of potential suitors.

A recent report in the Daily Mail revealed that Spurs’ recruitment team scouted Torres, who has previously been described as “extraordinary”, as his side fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

And Football Insider claim that the north London outfit are growing in confidence that the 6 foot 3 ace can be signed for £10 million below his £55m release clause.

Tottenham could face competition from Manchester United for Torres’ signature, though, but securing a top-four finish would surely put them in pole position.

Jones believes that Torres could be ‘good value’ for Antonio Conte’s charges and that his exit from Villarreal ‘seems imminent’ after much speculation.
