'Perfect choice' - Manchester United fans react to Raphael Varane being named captain

Manchester United fans have been sharing their reaction to Raphael Varane being named captain for the pre-season friendly with Rayo Vallecano.

Erik ten Hag has made plenty of changes on Sunday which was to be expected after playing Atletico Madrid yesterday. The main talking point with today's team news is that Cristiano Ronaldo makes his first start of pre-season.

Ronaldo missed the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to 'family reasons' and he has yet to play any minutes this summer. However he has been chosen up front for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen both get their first starts for United while Alejandro Garnacho, Ethan Laird and James Garner feature. Varane also starts for United and takes the captain's armband.

There is no Harry Maguire today so it may have been expected that Ronaldo would take the armband but, after the saga surrounding his future this summer, it would seem that Ten Hag has opted with the Frenchman. Here is how United fans have reacted to the decision.
