Pep Guardiola outlines how Erling Haaland transfer has impacted Man City squad

Pep Guardiola says there has been no talk of new Manchester City signing Erling Haaland in the build-up to the Premier League game against Wolves on Wednesday.

City confirmed their agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Haaland on Tuesday, shortly after Guardiola had refused to comment on the imminent transfer - by saying he had been told by both clubs not to talk about it until all the legalities were completed.

Now, in his first interview since Haaland's signing was confirmed, Guardiola remained coy over Haaland's arrival, preferring to speak instead of the Wolves game.

"We didn't speak about that," he said when asked if the Haaland announcement has given the squad a lift.

"I didn't speak with them about it."

"We know what we have to do. We have to make points to retain the title."

As well as Guardiola, captain Fernandinho was asked about Haaland's arrival, with the outgoing midfielder saying it's a marker of City's success in recent years.

"It is important. We showed the last five or six years how good we are as a team and we are able to win a couple of Premier League titles," he told Sky.

"I am very proud of our players. When he comes over I guess he will give a lot to this team."

Fernandinho will play in defence against Wolves due to a number of defensive injuries, and Guardiola backed his captain to drop in well.

"Of course it is not his position," he said. "He played many times there and with the situation we have - unfortunately sometimes that happens. He will do his best."
