Pep Guardiola now has ideal Man City problem amid Jack Grealish return

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will have been delighted this week to welcome back Jack Grealish to first-team training ahead of the visit of Nottingham Forest.

Before his injury, Grealish was continuing to show his ability to adapt to what City need from their wingers. Early criticism of the former Aston Villa man suggested he was perhaps too safe for the Blues and was reluctant to attack defenders like he did during his time in the West Midlands.

But, the 28-year-old found his feet and last season became one of the first names on the teamsheet thanks to his creativity. This is why it was ultimately a shame to see Grealish's campaign temporarily halted.

Fortunately waiting in the wings (no pun intended), was an alternative in Jeremy Doku. Unlike Grealish, the 21-year-old is a rough diamond at present who Guardiola is keen to polish.

His first match against Fulham did not pull up any trees but it was his first taste of Premier League football. However, against West Ham United we saw exactly why Guardiola has brought him to the Etihad.

Doku seemed more comfortable to take on the defence and earned his just rewards when he bagged the equaliser shortly after half-time. By no means is he the finished article, but neither is he expected to be at 21.

What this does mean is City now have a wealth of options to play in the attacking three behind Erling Haaland. Julian Alvarez's outstanding start to the season guarantees him a place and Phil Foden continues to impress when he features meaning the third spot is between Doku and Grealish.
