Pep Guardiola might have confirmed eight Man City starters vs Newcastle

Manchester City are into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, beating Watford despite a quick turnaround from the Arsenal win.

Pep Guardiola made nine changes to his City side and replaced a tenth at half-time. Only Kyle Walker and Jeremy Doku started both games, with the manager using his substitutes to give as much rest as possible to his senior pros.

Doku and Matheus Nunes gave City a comfortable lead, which was seen out despite Tom Ince's late consolation that threatened a nervy finish. Meanwhile, City will be without Rodri for a long time after tests revealed he requires surgery - with City waiting on a specific timeframe after some disagreement among doctors over his injury.

Guardiola used his team to rest most of his starters from Sunday's epic against Arsenal - only Doku and Walker started against the Gunners and Watford. Even Mateo Kovacic, on for Rodri two days earlier, was on the bench as a mix and match midfield took to the field.

Doku was replaced at half-time, in what seemed like a pre-planned switch for the lively Savinho, giving both wingers 45 minutes. So Walker was the only man to play more than one-and-a-half games in three days, and Guardiola's use of substitutes hinted strongly at who will be selected on Saturday at Newcastle.
