Pep Guardiola makes admission over Everton penalty claim against Man City

Pep Guardiola has admitted Everton should have been given a penalty against Man City if Richarlison was in an onside position before the incident.

The Blues were 1-0 down in the closing stages of their match against the champions on Saturday evening thanks to Phil Foden's second half strike.

However, Frank Lampard's side were denied what looked a stone-wall penalty when the ball bounced up inside the Man City penalty area and struck Rodri on the arm.

Paul Tierney, who was unsighted, didn't give the decision on the pitch - and Chris Kavanagh at Stockley Park did not refer the on-field official to look at the monitor.

Now, speaking a few days after the incident, Guardiola has admitted that it should have been a penalty - but only if Richarlison was onside from the initial pass by Dele Alli.

When asked if the incident could dictate the course of the season, the Man City boss remarked: "This episode will dictate the whole season?

"For sure I will review a lot of incidents, my friend!

"What I will say is the pass by Dele Alli looks like it's offside to Richarlison, if it's not offside then it's a penalty."

Initial guidance from the Premier League suggested that any potential offside was not the reason behind the Blues' claim being denied.

Everton have now submitted an official complaint to the Premier League over recent decisions that they feel have gone against them, with this weekend's incident high on the agenda.

The Blues were also denied a spot-kick against Southampton a week previously where it seemed that Oriol Romeu had handled the ball inside the penalty area.
