Pep Guardiola leaves door open for England approach amid Man City contract fears

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has left the door open for him becoming the next England manager.

The Three Lions are without a permanent boss following Gareth Southgate's departure after the defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Lee Carsley is currently interim manager, but he has cast doubts over whether he would want the job permanently.

Several big-name managers have been linked, including ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and City manager Guardiola. The Catalan's contract at the Etihad Stadium expires this summer and with discussions about an extension currently paused, Guardiola claims he is yet to decide what comes next in his career.

"Let’s see on my future," he told Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa. “I still need to reflect and decide what I want to do."

City will be desperate to keep hold of their legendary boss, who has helped to transform English and European football across a glittering career. City have won a record four consecutive Premier League titles and the Treble since his arrival in 2016.

Guardiola's success has led to Manchester United legend Roy Keane sharing his belief that the FA should pursue City's manager if his future at the end of this season is still uncertain.

"It is [a small pond in which to find Southgate's successor] but the most important thing is to get the right man. [Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe] they've all got a chance," he told ITV.
