Pep Guardiola has not spoken to Man City players since Real Madrid defeat

Pep Guardiola said there were no words he could say to Manchester City players to console them after their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

City were two goals ahead going into the 90th minute of the second leg of their semi-final yet conceded twice in two minutes to see their advantage wiped out, before a Karim Benzema penalty at the beginning of extra time sent the Spanish side through to a final against Liverpool. It is the latest in a long line of Champions League disappointments for City under Guardiola, who is still to win the competition with the club.

The Blues must pick themselves up for a Premier League game with Newcastle on Sunday, given there are four matches left and the club cannot afford any slip-ups if they are to hold off Liverpool. Guardiola revealed that he had not said a word to his players since the Real Madrid game, but would remind them how good they have been all season when they train on Saturday.

"We didn't speak. No words can help for what all of us feel. It is just a question of time, sleep as well as possible and think of the next target.," he said.

"Tomorrow will be the first day we are together and we are going to talk about who we are as a team, what we have done in the semi-final. How good we have been not just in these two games but all season and try to do it over the last weeks.

"It is probably one of the moments since I am manager I am most proud to be in this club and organisation until the last day we are here we give everything together."
