Pep Guardiola hails key in Man City roaring back to beat Manchester United

Pep Guardiola picked out Manchester City's win over Brighton as a crucial platform for the week that has followed.

City lost consecutive Premier League games for the first time in five years to head into the October international break with some questions, but have now picked up three wins in eight days to roar back to form. Guardiola hailed the win over Brighton last weekend as crucial for not letting doubts creep in.

"The Brighton game was so important after a few defeats. It's not the fact of a defeat, it's when it comes in your mind and you start to have doubts in your head and after it is more difficult," he said.

"Brighton is a tough opponent to play and I know how difficult it is for every team to play against them, it's so complicated. it was important against Young Boys to understand the way we have to play, to be more precise on an artificial pitch and we did it perfectly.

"Today here it is special for the scenario. Old Trafford is Old Trafford and to win here we are so proud."

The performance at Old Trafford wasn't perfect, with Guardiola citing a number of things they could have done better during the game and especially at the start. However, as well as praising Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland he also gave credit to his backline for providing such strong foundations from the back.

"The second goal helped us a lot. I like it because from the first minute we thought they would be more aggressive in the second half and they were but we made incredible build-ups with Ruben [Dias] and Ederson.

"Bernardo made a good action, Erling scored the second goal and that was the key
