Pep Guardiola gives Phil Foden update after Man City injury concern

Pep Guardiola indicated that Phil Foden will be free to face Crystal Palace after taking a knock against Newcastle.

Foden put in another inspired performance last Saturday to score his fourth goal in a week and propel Manchester City to a 2-0 win over the north-east outfit that keeps the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. City still trail by five points in the title race, but nobody can rule them out given the experience and quality they have.

That now includes Stockport's Foden, now rejuvenated after a frustrating four months for the club where injuries and form saw him struggle to get in the team and stay in it. His last three starts have all given no reason to drop him, although the 22-year-old admitted after the Newcastle game that he had suffered some more trouble in a foot injury that has been plaguing him.

He did, however, train as normal when the team returned to the City Football Academy after two days off and Guardiola had no concerns when asked about the player's fitness in his press conference on Friday. "Apparently he is ok," the manager said.

City's boss will have to consider whether Foden starts though given there is a crunch Champions League game with RB Leipzig three nights after the Blues are down at Selhurst Park. The two-legged tie is level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, meaning City have more work than they usually do at this stage of the competition to progress to the last eight.
