Pep Guardiola gives Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus injury updates ahead of Everton vs Man City

Gabriel Jesus and Jack Grealish are set to return to Manchester City action at Everton tomorrow.

And manager Pep Guardiola says that having the two forwards back is an "important" boost for his squad after they lost for the first time in 16 games against Tottenham last week.

Grealish has been missing for more than a fortnight with a shin problem, while Jesus has not played since he was injured on international duty for Brazil last month.

Both returned to training this week, and Guardiola today confirmed that they will be okay to play at Goodison Park if picked.

Jesus began the season as the first-choice right winger but Riyad Mahrez has since staked a strong claim by scoring 10 goals in his last 10 games, and becoming a reliable penalty-taker.

But Jesus is more direct and defensively better than the Algeria star — he is more likely to return in the FA Cup tie at Peterborough on Tuesday, with everyone except for Zack Steffen and Cole Palmer currently available.

Asked specifically about Jesus, Guardiola sad: "He's so important in many aspects we don't have. For the inspiration, the movement in behind, the actions in final third. He and Jack are back — they are ready and so important for us."

City's defeat last week has left them just three points ahead of Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp's team hammered Leeds 6-0 in midweek to close the gap, and establish a better goal difference.
