Pep Guardiola fires warning to Steven Gerrard ahead of crunch Man City clash
Pep Guardiola has warned Aston Villa that his Manchester City side will give "all of their lives" to win the Premier League title this weekend.
Steven Gerrard's men could play a significant role in the title race as City host Villa in desperate need of three points on Sunday. Only a win will do for Guardiola as Liverpool are one point off top spot coming into the final weekend of the season.
The Reds beat Southampton 2-1 at St. Mary's on Tuesday night to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 18 games and they must also win on Sunday afternoon to convert their slim chances of becoming champions into reality. Jurgen Klopp's side host Wolves at Anfield, while City face Villa at the Etihad, and boss Guardiola has promised that his players will leave nothing on the pitch in protecting their top-flight crown.
"I can assure you something – that we will give them all of our lives to do it," he said. "It’s an incredible privilege to have the chance to become champions in front of our people at home and I’m looking forward to it.
"We will rest for a couple of days and try to be ready for Villa but the positive thing is it’s still in our hands. They are desperate to win it and we have showed that all season.”
Guardiola added: "I have a feeling every time you win a title it gets more difficult. But this is what you expect when you are up against a team like Liverpool. We know we can’t make a mistake."
