Pep Guardiola explains why Jack Grealish starts for Man City over Jeremy Doku vs Manchester United

Pep Guardiola says he preferred Jack Grealish's qualities for Manchester City rather than Jeremy Doku against Manchester United, as he went for experience over youth in the derby.

City travel to United looking to open up a nine-point gap between the sides after just ten games. City dominated the first derby of last season, winning 6-3 at the Etihad, but were beaten 2-1 in controversial circumstances at Old Trafford - before beating United at Wembley in the FA Cup final on their way to their historic treble.

For the first meeting between the sides this term, Guardiola made several changes and justified his decision to recall Grealish by saying: "We need Jack."

Grealish makes his 100th appearance for City, and scored at Old Trafford last season, and Guardiola explained why he opted for the England man over the dangerous pace of Doku.

He told Sky: "I wake up and say I think [this]. Different styles, both are so important. We need Jack back, plays so good. Lots of pace in Switzerland. We decide we need Jack."

Guardiola also called for City to focus on their own game rather than United's threats or whatever noise there may be around the hosts.

"At the end it's a football game," he said. "As much I learn, as much pressure, important game for the big contenders in Europe and here England. More focus has to be on what we have to do.

"Always they have done [play on the break] since I was here. They have quality to play, always they have been since Sir Alex Ferguson, when they can run they are unstoppable."
