Despite what Pep Guardiola would have you think, there can be no question that Mohamed Salah has been the standout star in the Premier League this season.

The Liverpool forward was crowned FWA Footballer of the Year on Friday and is a clear favourite to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, PFA Fans' Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season awards too. As the Premier League’s leading goalscorer and playmaker, with 22 goals and 13 assists, such honours should be no surprise.

That didn’t stop the Man City manager’s nose from being put out of joint though. Considering it is Guardiola’s side who are currently a point clear at the top of the table, the Spaniard will feel aggrieved to see his players miss out on individual honours if they are the ones to end the season as champions.

It wouldn’t be the first time he has taken issue with such awards, having seen Salah and Virgil van Dijk named both PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season in 2018 and 2019 despite City winning both titles. The Egyptian would also win the FWA Footballer of the Year award in 2018, as well as the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year prize for both 2018 and 2021.
