Pep Guardiola confirms another Jack Grealish injury setback in Man City win

Jack Grealish suffered a groin injury in Manchester City's FA Cup win over Luton, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

Grealish started his first game since limping off in City's win against Copenhagen two weeks ago with a muscle injury, which itself represented a first start in six matches as the winger battles with a persistent injury. There didn't look to be any challenge that forced Grealish off before half time at Luton, and he looked devastated on the bench, hiding his face for a couple of minutes with a coat.

He didn't seem to emerge for the second half, and Guardiola said after the game that Grealish's tough season continues with this latest setback.

Guardiola had declared that 'Jack is back' before the Luton game, awarding him a start in order to improve his rhythm ahead of a defining run of fixtures - adding that Grealish's form had been a little patchy in the first half of the campaign as he struggled to reach his heights of last season.

Assessing his injury at Luton, Guardiola said: "I didn't speak to doctors but I think he complained a bit about the groin. Maybe a little bit similar. He felt really good but unfortunately was injured again at the beginning of the game.

"It's been a tough season for him, has to recover well and help us when he's able to come back."

However, Guardiola did declare Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne - who combined for four goals between then before Haaland scored a fifth without the Belgian's help - both close to full fitness after their own issues.
