Pep Guardiola completely missed the point when revealing what went wrong with Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are beginning to reap the rewards of signing Jadon Sancho following his £73million transfer from Dortmund.

As for Man City, Sancho will always be the one that got away. The young England international came up through the ranks at the Etihad, following a stint on Watford's books, and was quickly tipped as one for the future.

But in 2017, Sancho said goodbye to the Premier League, his home comforts, and a sensational team moving in the right direction under one of the best managers on the planet, Pep Guardiola, to try his luck in Germany.

Sancho had no knowledge of the language prior to his switch and there were question marks over whether he'd shine at Dortmund. But the winger wasted no time showing the world what he's capable of while simultaneously proving he made the right call.

Guardiola was asked in 2017 to reveal details of the situation with Sancho after he left Man City for Dortmund, and it seems, with the benefit of hindsight, the Spaniard failed to understand what the winger really wanted from the club during the negotiation process.

"We arrived at an agreement with Jadon Sancho, we shake our hands. We shake our hands," Guardiola told the press. "We offered a huge deal for the academy in terms of salary. He was the most well-paid player in all the academy and we shake our hands.

"Before we went to the States we believed the next step was to have him all season training with the first team like Phil Foden and Brahim [Diaz]. He or his agent decided, 'I'm not going to sign the contract'. We said, 'OK, you are not going to travel to the States – if you are not going to sign the contract you stay here'.
