Pep Guardiola challenges Erling Haaland over Man City goals after Champions League win

Pep Guardiola wants Erling Haaland to keep extending records after he scored another brace for Manchester City, this time in the Champions League win at Sevilla.

Haaland opened the scoring in Seville, and also added a third goal in a 4-0 win to take his tally for City to 12 goals in seven games. In the Champions League, he has a remarkable 25 goals in 20 appearances. And Guardiola wants him to continue to push the records he is breaking and extending, noting that he could have had even more against Sevilla.

"I love this routine and it's been a routine in every single press conference after games talking about him and his goals," Guardiola said when asked to rate Haaland's performance.

"Hopefully he can continue this routine. The numbers speak for themselves. It's not just the two goals, it's always he's there, always he's there. It's always the feeling that he could score more goals."

Speaking to BT Sport, Guardiola added: "I think his numbers in all his career is quite similar. He has an incredible sense of goal, he scored two and could have had two or three more. he has incredible numbers so continue like that. Another battle next Saturday against Tottenham and hopefully he can continue scoring goals."

Guardiola also set a challenge to City's other forwards not to always rush a pass to get the ball to Haaland, instead taking their time to find him.

He said: "We gave more passes. Sometimes we want to rush so so quick because Erling is there, he have this attraction about him, we want to attack it [but] sometimes we have to make more passes."
