"People close to the club..." - Journalist drops major Spurs update on potential Conte successor

People close to Tottenham believe that Graham Potter will be a frontrunner to replace Antonio Conte if the Italian leaves this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Conte’s recent influence at Spurs was highlighted once again in the 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Saturday, but his future in North London remains up in the air ahead of end-of-season talks.

And Jones reckons that should Conte leave his position as manager, Brighton boss Potter will be at the front of the queue to replace him.

Despite Tottenham potentially being just three victories away from qualifying for the Champions League, it’s not yet clear whether Conte will still be their manager next season.

If Conte doesn’t stick around, the Telegraph believe that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy will turn their attentions to Potter, who’s been earning rave reviews for his work at Brighton, and in particular, wins over Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Spurs were heavily linked with Potter last summer following the departure of Jose Mourinho, although Nuno Espirito Santo was eventually appointed instead.

But with Conte’s future now under threat, Potter has emerged as a contender once again.

The report says that Tottenham would be forced to pay Brighton £10m for his services, although Paratici has been impressed with his work on the South Coast since he arrived in English football.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If Pochettino is not available, then it’s Graham Potter. They’re the only two people that people close to the club say they would consider appointing.

“Potter, it would be interesting to see if he’s ready to go to that level and how he would adapt, but if Conte does go, he will definitely be considered.”
