Pensioner rescued from car after crashing through wall and hanging over 10 foot drop

An 88-year-old woman had to be rescued from her car after she crashed through a wall and was left hanging over an 10ft edge. Emergency services were called to the scene in Devon this afternoon (May 4) where a blue Mercedes was teetering over the edge of a garden.

The car reportedly crashed through the wall of a car port and went head first into a hedge below on Bishops Rise, Torquay. The driver had to be rescued by firefighter and assessed for injuries by paramedics.

A neighbour told Devon Live that the driver had lived at the address for about 40 years. She said: "She is very independent. She's lived there for about 40 years and she's always up and down to the shops."

"The vehicle was an automatic Mercedes. The driver is aged 88 and she is being assessed by paramedics inside now. We have made the vehicle safe and sectioned off the car port."

Pictures from the scene of the incident - taken at around 2.30pm - show emergency services working to stabilise the car. Devon and Cornwall Police officers have been contacted for more information about the incident.

The fire service issued a statement: "Crews from Paignton and Torquay attended a car accident where a car had driven through the side of a garage of a domestic property and the front end of the car had fallen down a ten foot drop. Crews stabilised the vehicle using v-struts, a tirfor winch and strops, chocks, a triple extension ladder, and small tools, then managed to
