Paul Warne reveals Rotherham United blow amid promotion push

Rotherham have stormed to the top of the League One table and will be eyeing yet another promotion back into the Championship come the end of the year.

However, they’ll have to spend the next two months trying to pick up results and secure that promotion without one of their regular first-team players. That man is Will Grigg, with Paul Warne revealing to the Yorkshire Post that the striker will be out of action for up to eight weeks.

The 30-year-old hasn’t hit the same goalscoring heights as he has previously, managing only two league goals for the Millers so far this campaign. However, he has still managed 19 games despite that lack of contribution in front of goal and that comes down to the other aspects of his game.

The Northern Ireland international can hold the ball up well, bring his teammates into the fold and create chances for other attacking players in the side. Michael Smith then does the bulk of the goal-getting, while his strike partner allows him to thrive and creates the chances.

That partnership though will have to be put on hold for the time being. Grigg suffered an injury in midweek and it has now been revealed that it could leave him on the sidelines for a fairly lengthy amount of time.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post about the forward, Paul Warne said: “I don’t really like to put a timeframe on Griggy’s [injury] because the physios told me, but we think he might be about eight weeks. His is a severe hammy [hamstring injury].

“There was obviously nobody near him when he did it. He ran and put the cross in for a chance that Smudge [Michael Smith] should definitely have taken.”
