Paul Scholes mocks Robbie Savage as son Charlie thrives for Man Utd in pre-season

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has aimed a hilarious dig at his pundit pal Robbie Savage after his son Charlie impressed in pre-season for the Red Devils.

The 19-year-old shone in the 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Friday, playing the entirety of the second half and catching the eye with his ability to dictate the tempo of the match and spray accurate passes all over the pitch. Thus, many singled out the midfielder for plenty of praise.

Savage made his debut under Ralf Rangnick last season, coming on in the 89th minute of United’s Champions League group stage match against Young Boys – which finished 1-1. And with Erik ten Hag now in the Old Trafford dugout, the teenager is working hard to stake his claim for more minutes in the centre of the park next season.

The Wales Under-19 international isn’t short of admirers, one of whom is Scholes. The former England playmaker recently posted a photo of Savage on his Instagram story and used the opportunity to praise the youngster whilst also taking aim at his dad Robbie, who he works alongside for BT Sport.

Scholes captioned the picture: “@charliesavage48 v Melbourne Victory, clearly gets his passing from his Mother!!” The message was posted alongside a thumbs-up emoji and clapping hands.

Robbie and Scholes crossed paths at United in the 1993/94 campaign, though neither of the pair made a senior appearance that campaign. The former joining Crewe Alexandra the following season, whereas Scholes broke into Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
