Paul Scholes claims theory on Glazers is wrong as he predicts when Man United protests will end

Paul Scholes claims Manchester United fans' protests against the Glazer family will only stop once new owners are found.

The former midfielder says he hopes that a takeover can be sorted before the summer ahead of a big spending spree, which is likely to see a marquee striker signed. A second soft deadline for revised bids has been set for Wednesday night at 9pm.

This follows club meetings with big-money bidders Sir Jim Ratcliffe and representatives of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, among others, last week. Scholes suggested that the argument that the Glazers had not spent funds on the team under previous managers was wrong.

“I hope it’s something that gets sorted soon,” Scholes said. “If the ownership is a done deal in a couple of months that will hopefully help the manager and maybe bring more funds.

“Although I don’t think any manager has been left short by the owners we have now, I think the club is ready for a change. It’s pretty obvious the fans are ready.

“Of course the last thing you want is protests around the ground. As soon as the new owners come in, if it ever does happen, all that will stop and hopefully we can move forward.”

There is debate among United fans over which potential owner they would like to see at the club. Some wish to see Sheikh Jassim’s proposal to wipe club debts clear come to fruition while others are keen on Failsworth-born Ratcliffe taking the reins given his local roots.

Scholes himself has no preference, as long as the team on the pitch are performing. He added: “I don’t care who is running the club as long as what is happening on the field is right.
