Paul Mitchell has already set out a vision that Manchester United and Erik ten Hag need

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of purchasing a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United but the jury is still out on the British billionaire.

We are yet to see what vision Ratcliffe has for United. What we do know is the INEOS founder has a track record in top-level sport, even if his ventures into football have been on a much smaller scale to date.

Unfortunately for Ratcliffe, his time at United will begin on a level of some distrust from the fanbase after he adjusted his offer to leave the Glazers in a position of power at Old Trafford. However, it is understood the boyhood Red will have a greater say on the sporting side.

This will come as a relief to United supporters, who will be in agreement in their assessment of the Glazers' handling of football matters. One of the first appointments Ratcliffe is believed to be wanting to make is a sporting director.

According to The Athletic, Paul Mitchell, AS Monaco's ex-sporting director and former head of recruitment at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, is under consideration for the job. Mitchell has been consistently linked to United especially when Mauricio Pochettino was being tipped to take charge and the 42-year-old has already set out what the Reds need to take them back to the very top.

In an interview with Sky Sports in July 2022, he explained: "It is sometimes hard to comment when you're not in the internal and always understanding the context. I use that word a lot because I think context is important to measure what Manchester United's current situation is, but I think they do need to get to the point
