Paul Heckingbottom may have answer to Sheffield United problem following unexpected selection

Of the four changes Paul Heckingbottom made for the clash against West Brom on Wednesday night, working out how both George Baldock and Jayden Bogle were going to feature in the same team had plenty of supporters perplexed.

The 28-year-old, for so long a regular fixture at right wing-back, lined up on the left for the first time and it was a selection that proved inspirational.

Baldock was impressive both in attack and in defence, as he chipped in with the assist for Billy Sharp's opener before then producing the tackle of the season to deny Grady Diangana what looked a certain equaliser.

With Enda Stevens out injured, only Rhys Norrington-Davies remains as a recognised left wing-back, although Ben Osborn can play in that position.

Ever since Jack O'Connell's injury back in 2020, the left side has been a problem for Sheffield United.

Stevens has suffered with injury and played with a misdiagnosed double hernia problem, while Jack Robinson, Kean Bryan and Ben Davies have all tried to fill the void left by O'Connell's absence.

Stevens is still a couple weeks from returning and with games coming thick and fast in February and March, having an unexpected selection boost on this side is more than welcome as Heckingbottom looks to manage his squad through this fixture period.

And, as the Blades boss explains, he gave him exactly what he wanted.

Heckingbottom said: "For that recovery tackle, he was onside we have seen it back. I think George and Bash probably play him on but the recovery tackle was great and then his contribution at the other end.
