Patrick Cantlay and Brooks Koepka still fast friends despite 'slow' jibe
Patrick Cantlay insists he harbours no lingering ill-will towards Brooks Koepka, despite being criticised by his Ryder Cup team-mate for slow play.
Koepka hit out at the pace of play in the final round of this year's Masters after finishing runner-up to Jon Rahm at Augusta National.
The final pair took close to five hours to complete their rounds, although they waited on almost every hole and Cantlay - in the group ahead with Viktor Hovland - was widely held to be responsible for the slow going.
"The group in front of us was brutally slow," Koepka said. "Jon went to the bathroom like seven times during the round, and we were still waiting."
Asked if that would cause any issues in the United States team room at Marco Simone this week, Cantlay said: "Not from my part at all. I think looking back at his comments, it was in general about it being slow.
"So no, not a big deal at all, and I'm his biggest fan this week."
Cantlay also insisted he would not care if he became a target for the European fans due to his slow play, adding: "It would be great. I don't mind.
"Any of that stuff I think in this format really makes it what it is. I mean, you want people to care and try to get under your skin in this tournament, so I'm looking forward to it."
