Patrick Brady of Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford, becomes first teenager to win the Men’s UK Pro League

Patrick Brady has become the first teenager to win the Men’s UK Pro League.

After eight weeks and 480 matches involving more than 100 players, the 2023 Finals Week was held at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton, culminating in two dramatic Finals and the crowning of Brady and Elena Malygina as this year’s champions.

Brady, who lives in Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford, won the first-ever Pro League men’s grass Finals in August, which enabled him to qualify for the Finals.

The 18-year-old defeated former UKPL Week Winners Hamish Stewart and George Houghton to win his pool and soared through his Quarter-Final and Semi-Final with straight-sets triumphs.

He beat Giles Hussey - eight years his senior, sitting nearly 400 places above him in the ATP rankings - 6-3, 6-3 in the Final.

Brady said: “I’ve been training really hard and set out this season to try and win a significant title.

“I’m overjoyed to have achieved this and want to thank all of those who have been supporting me, especially my family.

“I’d also like to thank Dartford Borough Council who have helped me through their ‘Salute to Youth’ scheme.”

Brady now joins the likes of Kent’s Emma Raducanu, Liam Broady, Anton Matusevich and Kyle Edmund, winning the golden pineapple trophy.
