Patrice Evra pinpoints what 'pit bull' Lisandro Martinez is giving Manchester United

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has heaped praise on Lisandro Martinez, calling the new signing a "pit bull" after his recent performances.

Martinez put in another fine performance against Leicester City on Thursday night as he perfectly executed the task of keeping prolific goal scorer Jamie Vardy quiet. His partnership with Raphael Varane made United solid in defence again, as they kept their second successive clean sheet.

The 24-year-old has not only provided an element of steel to United's backline, but he has also enabled Erik ten Hag's side to transition the ball with speed, adding another dimension to the team's tactical set-up. Martinez has impressed with his work-rate and commitment to the cause, wearing his heart on his sleeve in matches.

Martinez has been rewarded for his fine form, as fans voted for the defender as the club's player of the month in recognition of his impressive performances since joining the club this summer. Although he has not been a United player for very long, his 'never say die' attitude on the pitch has already seen him swiftly become a fan favourite.

And it isn't just the fans who are impressed by Martinez. Evra has also been waxing lyrical over the former Ajax player's impact at the club in such a short space of time.

Speaking to Betfair, Evra said: "Lisandro Martinez is a pit bull, he's going to give his life and that's what we need.

"I've played with Gabriel Heinze, Carlos Tevez, Paulo Dybala, Lucas Bernardi, and South Americans play with passion and they give everything, it's like they are going to war.

"I remember when Martinez signed for United, he said every game is important, and people started to judge him too
