Patreick Fishburn and Denny McCarthy share Sony lead; Power misses cut

American duo Patrick Fishburn and Denny McCarthy share the lead at the halfway stage of the Soney Open in Hawaii, with Seamus Power failing to make the cut.

Power, who had a strong end to the 2024 season with four top-20 finishes in his last seven tournaments, was nine shots off the lead after his opening round. Despite a birdie at the first, (the 10th), the Co Waterford player failed to make any more inroads on those ahead of him, with a bogey and double-bogey on 15 and 17 respectively. He signed for a 72, which left him on five over, two shots beyond the cut mark.

LEADERBOARD

Fishburn produced a second consecutive five-under-par 65 at Waialae Country Club, while McCarthy carded a 66, leaving both at 10 under.

A shot further back are Eric Cole, Paul Peterson and Kensei Hirata.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, coming off a record-breaking victory at The Sentry last week, is tied for 42nd place at four under after a 69.

Matsuyama captured the Sony Open championship three years ago.
