Paris 2024: Two judges of Daina Moorehouse fight stood down by IBA in 2021 - Report

Two Olympic judges that were stood down in 2021 have been officiating at the Paris Games, according to a report in The Times.

Emil Gurbanaliyev and Sergei Krutasov have judged over 20 fights at the ongoing Olympics, including Daina Moorehouse's controversial defeat to France fighter Wassila Lkhadiri.

In 2021 at the AIBA World Championships, both Gurbanaliyev and Krutasov were randomly selected for integrity tests by Professor Richard McLaren – an academic who had been involved with WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) investigating state-sponsored doping in Russia - and were subsequently stood down.

The IBA, formerly known at the AIBA, is not responsible for running the boxing tournament in Paris, as it was taken over by the IOC (International Olympic Council) following a number of governance and financing issues.

Both judges passed IOC background checks ahead of the Games, while it has been reported that McLaren’s findings had not been available.

"It's possible they (the IOC) didn't know about Gurbanaliyev and Krutasov," said McLaren.

"What I would have liked to have done is gone through these tests that we run [with them]."

In Wicklow fighter Moorehouse’s 4:1 defeat to Lkhadiri, Azerbaijan judge Gurbanaliyev awarded the home fighter all three rounds 10:9, while Russian Krutasov, who is listed on the Olympics website as a member of the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit, scored the contest 2:1 against the Irish fighter.
