Coventry City enjoyed an impressive campaign in 2021/22, claiming a 12th place finish in the Championship table.

That is something the Sky Blues will be looking to build on in the 2022/23 season, having gone close to breaking into the play-off places at certain points.

If they are to do that, then a strong summer transfer window will be vital for the club, both in terms of making the right signings, and keeping their key players.

However, with a long time remaining before the market closes, it will be some time yet before we know how successful the market has actually been for Mark Robins and his side.

So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at Coventry’s best starting XI based on the players who are currently on the books at The CBS Arena.

In goal, Simon Moore was Coventry’s first choice between the posts for much of last season, and there appears to be little reason for that to change as things stand.

With Jake Clarke-Salter’s Coventry loan now over, and the defender moving on to QPR on a permanent basis, Dom Hyam, Kyle McFadzean and Michael Rose are the senior options to make up the central defensive three that Robins used throughout last season.

At wing-back, the expiration of Ian Maatsen’s loan deal means Jake Bidwell is the club’s current senior option on the left-hand side of the pitch, while Fankaty Dabo looks the most obvious and effective option on the right.

Having signed a new contract with Coventry earlier this year, Gustavo Hamer should continue in his enforcer role in the centre of the park as things stand.
