Pakistan Super League debut: Rassie joins SA20 dazzlers Miller and Shamsi abroad

Proteas batter Rassie van der Dussen will make his debut in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which got under way on Monday.

Van der Dussen was drafted by Islamabad United as a partial replacement for Moeen Ali, who will be unavailable until 14 March due to international commitments.

The eighth edition of the PSL, which concludes on 19 March, sees six teams vie for the coveted title: Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalanders and Multan Sultans.

Van der Dussen, who scored 243 runs in his 10 matches for MI Cape Town, is among several stars competing at the PSL who also featured in the SA20 - joining the likes of international stars Jimmy Neesham and Matthew Wade and local players David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Rilee Rossouw and Tabraiz Shamsi to name a few.

Van der Dussen, who should have Test series commitments when the West Indies Tour of South Africa starts from 28 February to 28 March, and his Proteas teammates Miller, Parnell and Shamsi will only play the first half of the PSL.

The Proteas play an all-format tour against the Windies, which includes two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.

"Rovman Powell, David Miller, Odean Smith, Akeal Hosein and Tabraiz Shamsi will potentially be unavailable to their franchises from 8 March onwards due to the bilateral limited-overs series between the West Indies and South Africa," said a Pakistan Cricket Board statement.

Former Proteas all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, who retired from international cricket this summer, will play for Quetta Gladiators.

Meanwhile, defending champions Multan Sultans have kept faith in Rilee Rossouw and Karachi Kings retained mentor and spinner Imran Tahir.
