Pair jailed over the death of much loved lawyer after killing him with one punch in senseless attack on night out

Two men have been jailed for causing the death of a 25-year-old trainee barrister in a one-punch killing during a night out in Preston.

Jack Jermy-Doyle died after he was punched to the ground on Preston Flag Market on August 12, 2022. That evening, Jack, a lifelong member of the Scouts Association and water sports volunteer, had been enjoying drinks in Chorley and Preston with his friend Robert Jones.

Throughout the evening, Parkinson and Fairclough had been involved in a number of altercations and scuffles as they worked their way from the university towards Church Street. They were "spoiling for a fight", Preston Crown Court heard.

Jack's head hit the pavement and he was knocked unconscious with a crack so loud it was picked up on the city's CCTV camera microphones. Tragically, Jack never recovered.

As Robert and members of the public called emergency services, and attempted first aid, Fairclough and Parkinson continued on their way. Their aggression continued, and one was heard to shout: "Who's next? Let's have it", and other aggressive comments.

The following day, after seeing an appeal from Lancashire Police,
