Paciencia's screamer earns Frankfurt point against Gladbach in Bundesliga

Goncalo Paciencia scored a spectacular equaliser for Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, as the Europa League finalists returned to Bundesliga action with a 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach. Paciencia's 25-metre screamer was the high point as the two mid-table sides shared the points in an entertaining dead-rubber.

Frankfurt were slow to get going after their emotional Europa League semi-final victory over West Ham in midweek, and went behind after just four minutes. French striker Alassane Plea turned in Jonas Hofmann's low cross after a sharp passing move from the visitors.

Kevin Trapp denied Embolo at the start of the second half, while Plea denied Stefan Ilsanker with a goal-line block at the other end. Paciencia equalised for the hosts in breathtaking style on 66 minutes, catching Gladbach keeper Tobias Sippel off guard with a net-busting long-range effort.

Daichi Kamada thought he had snatched a late winner for the hosts when he turned in a corner on 89 minutes, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
