Owners respond to complaints after closure of Ryan Giggs' Worsley restaurant George's
George's in Worsley, the restaurant co-owned by Manchester United star Ryan Giggs, has issued an update to customers after its sudden closure at the weekend.
The restaurant closed to the shock of staff and customers on Friday after 12 years as a staple on the Worsley social scene. Notices on the door said it was closed due to "unforeseen circonstances [sic]" over the weekend.
But, as reported by the M.E.N., staff were sent text messages on Friday to say the Barton Road restaurant was closing with "immediate effect". The messages, seen by the M.E.N., said they "regret to announce that with a heavy heart we have no alternative but to close George's effective immediately."
It went on to say: "This is due to the obvious reduction in trade and business against the huge increases in costs of operating the business and the ongoing cost of living crisis".
Since then, customers have made a string of complaints in online comments asking what will happen with gift vouchers purchased from the restaurant.
Now, responding to that specific complaint, an update has been issued.
A spokesperson for the restaurant told the M.E.N.: "We are currently in the process of refunding all vouchers purchased which haven’t been redeemed. The majority of these have been refunded and we will be in touch within the coming days with those outstanding.
"If you don’t hear from us please get in touch with the restaurant directly." The contact for the restaurant is being given as the email address info@georgesworsley.co.uk.
Bosses have issued no further information about the closure, or what will be happening next at the restaurant site. Rumours have been swirling for weeks that it is to be taken over by another restaurant group operating in the Salford
