Overwatch 2: Compensation coming after disastrous launch

Overwatch 2 is out worldwide but it has not enjoyed a smooth launch at all.

The sequel to the wildly popular free-to-play shooter had a huge amount of hype before its release, especially as it was set to take over from Overwatch 1, where the servers have been closed down.

There has been a nightmare launch for the new game, as there has been more than one DDOS attack on the servers, server issues, and a backlash to the fact that players must have a mobile phone with a contract in order to be able to access the title.

The latter has since been edited, but there have been problems throughout the first week, to the point where Blizzard are attempting to make good.

Blizzard’s boss Mike Ybarra has confirmed that changes will be made in order to make it up to players.

As per Eurogamer, Ybarra took to Twitter to write: “Let’s try that again”.

That is effectively an admission that Overwatch 2’s launch has been disastrous, and the Tweet was accompanied by a link to a blog post.

Within that, Blizzard acknowledges that there have been issues and challenges that were “both anticipated and unexpected”.

They also revealed that they are going to “help make up for any lost time” and are planning on running several Double Match XP weekends.

The dates for those weekends have yet to be confirmed but will be shortly.

Every player who logs in from October 25th through to the end of Season One will receive a Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and a Health Pack Weapon Charm.

Blizzard has also confirmed that their transition towards a live service model has allowed them to make changes on the fly and keep Overwatch 2 updated.
