Over 7000 athletes register as Lagos Women Race holds Nov. 9
Over 7895 athletes have registered for this year’s Lagos Women Race, which holds on November 9, 2024 by 7.00 a.m., the organisers have said.
The organisers revealed yesterday that potential runners were given two registration windows, online and paper, to enter for the race, which theme is ‘More than just a run.’
Speaking at the unveiling of the programme for the race, which will flag off at the Lagos City Mall, Onikan and go through Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola, Falomo Bridge and end at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, the convener of the race, Tayo Popoola, said that this year’s event will give women some things they ca take back home, including life-changing empowerment training.
Popoola affirmed that the Lagos Women Race is an advocacy for sustainable development, adding, “we feel that we need a platform where we can support our women to communicate and help each other.”
She said that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is involved in the process of changing the lives of Nigerian women for the better, stating that the government has found in the race a platform to support women.
She said: “Governor Sanwo-Olu is involved in the project of enhancing the lives of women.
“This year, there will be an empowerment programme from November 1 where women will learn many life changing crafts.
“We want to give people knowledge that will help them become better people.”
Earlier, former international basketballer, Babs Ogunade, had explained that the 2024 Lagos Women Run has received massive support from corporate Nigeria, saying that the race has been interesting and encouraging even though there have been many challenges.
