Over 100 varsities to compete at 11th FASU Games

More than 100 universities and 3,500 students are set to participate at the 11th Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) Games,holdingin Lagos from September 20 to 29, 2024.
The event, known as the All Africa Universities Games, will be jointly hosted by Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), featuring 15 different sports.

The FASU Games, a biennial multi-sport event organised by the Federation of African Universities Sports, stands as the largest university games on the African continent.

Speaking at a media briefing on the games yesterday, the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, described securing the hosting rights for the FASU Games as a landmark achievement in the over 40-year history of LASU.

She highlighted the university’s upgraded sporting facilities, which have positioned LASU as a prime venue for national and continental sporting events.

Olatunji-Bello announced that LASU is fully committed to hosting the best FASU Games ever and has already begun preparations.

She noted that LASU students are training extensively to ensure the university is well-represented in various sports, including football, basketball, athletics, and table tennis among others.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed pride in LASU’s role in this rich sporting tradition and assured that LASU is ready to welcome the rest of Africa and is looking forward to collaborating with local and international partners to host a game that will offer substantial sporting and business opportunities to sporting organisations, athletes and co-hosts.

She also informed attendees that the NUGA Organising Committee is scheduled to visit LASU on June 12 and 13, 2024, for facility inspection and discussions.
