Oulton BSB: Perie doubles up in Supersport on Sunday

Bradley Perie (Appleyard Macadam Yamaha) took his second Quattro Group British Supersport Championship win of the weekend at Oulton Park on Sunday, coming home ahead of Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) and Jack Kennedy, the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha rider fighting back after a long lap penalty.

Harry Truelove and Luke Jones both crashed on the opening lap but it was Kennedy who led from Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Perie initially before Stapleford moved ahead coming into Lodge. However, it didn’t last long as he crashed out at the very next corner after contact between him and Kennedy. Perie took full advantage to take over the lead, but Kennedy was back in front as they started their third lap, Johnston and Jamie Perrin close behind in third and fourth. Jamie van Sikkelerus was also well in touch in fifth place. Just 0.6s covered the leading four riders on lap four with Perrin moving ahead of Johnston halfway round lap four only for the Ulsterman to immediately respond. However, as the race moved into its second half, it looked like Kennedy and Perie were beginning to edge away from the dicing duo behind them and, further back, there was a good battle between Rhys Irwin (Astro-JJR Triumph) and Eugene McManus (Completely Motorbikes/Affinity Kawasaki) for sixth. By lap seven, the front four were back together but Kennedy was hit with a long lap penalty for the earlier collision with Stapleford and although he re-joined in fourth place, he was now 3.2s adrift of new race leader Perie with five laps to go. Back at the front and Johnston swept into the lead for the first time at Island only for Perie to make a tough move at Shell Oils corner, just a few yards further round the lap.
