Oulton BSB: Lights to flag sprint win for Kennedy

Reigning champion Jack Kennedy took a start to finish victory in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship Sprint race at Oulton Park on Sunday, the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha runner coming home 4.2s clear of Bradley Perie (Appleyard Macadam Yamaha) with Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) taking third.

Kennedy grabbed the holeshot from pole position and led Perie, Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Johnston at the end of the opening lap, the latter recovering after a moment at Shell Oils Corner which forced him to run wide. By lap four, Kennedy’s lead was up to 1.4s and he was consistently lapping half a second quicker than his rivals, Perie still in second but now coming under pressure from Johnston. Stapleford was in fourth with teammate Zak Corderoy in sixth, Harry Truelove in between the pair on the second Appleyard Macadam Yamaha. With Kennedy continually pulling away, all eyes fell on the battle for second and Johnston took over the position on the eighth lap only for Perie to quickly fight his way back ahead. Stapleford also had a battle on his hands to keep fourth with Truelove in the ascendancy. Kennedy’s lead had got beyond four seconds as the race entered its final third and he duly took the chequered flag by 4.2s to maintain his 100% start to the season and move on to a maximum of 75 points from the first three races. Further back, Perie got the better of Johnston by more than half a second to get his first points on the board with Truelove coming through for fourth ahead of Stapleford. The second Gearlink Kawasaki of Corderoy took sixth with Eugene McManus, Luke Jones, Jaimie van Sikkelerus and Jamie Perrin rounding out the top ten. Jack Scott was the first GP2 rider home in 12th.
