Ottawa Redblacks to hire Mike Morreale as their new president, report says

It seems Mike Morreale is returning to the CFL.

The former slotback will reportedly be introduced as the new president of the Ottawa Redblacks.

TSN was the first to report the move. The Redblacks said they couldn't confirm that report when asked by CBC News on Tuesday afternoon.

The 55-year-old Hamilton native played 12 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (1995-96, 2002-03) and Tiger-Cats (1997-2001, 2004-06), winning two Grey Cups in 1996 and 1999).

Morreale was the league's top Canadian in 1998 and received the Tom Pate Memorial Award two years later for outstanding contributions to his team, community and the CFL Players' Association (CFLPA).

He later served with the CFLPA as its marketing director (2007-12) and president (2012-14).

Morreale co-found the Canadian Elite Basketball League in 2017 and served as its inaugural commissioner. He left that post in October 2025.

The Redblacks just snapped a 22-game losing streak on Friday in their last home game of what's been a dismal season. Adrian Sciarra "transitioned out" of his role as the team's president in August.
