Ostrava Open: Barbora Krejčíková ends Iga Świątek’s astonishing streak in finals
Barbora Krejčíková ended Iga Świątek’s 10-final win streak with an impressive victory at the Ostrava Open.
The pair met in the final of the WTA 500 event, which was held at the ČEZ Aréna in the Czech Republic.
The home crowd was out in force for Krejčíková, but Świątek, who hails from neighbouring Poland, was also well supported.
The match lived up to the billing, with Krejčíková overcoming the world number one in a thrilling three-set encounter.
Krejčíková came back from one set down to triumph 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, with Świątek saving five Championship points before finally conceding defeat.
It was the first time Świątek had lost in a final since April 2019, when she was beaten by Polona Hercog at the Ladies Open Lugano.
The 21-year-old then won 10 finals in a row, clinching two French Open titles and one US Open title during that period.
